Fight your way through the dense jungles of Rook Islands while being hunted by an army of blood-thirsty henchmen in this location-based VR experience.

Location-based VR specialists Zero Latency VR today announced a partnership with Ubisoft to bring the incredibly-popular first-person shooter franchise Far Cry to life in VR for the first time.

Available now at select Zero Latency locations around the globe, Far Cry VR: Dive into Insanity takes you back to the tropical paradise of Rook Islands, the primary setting for 2012’s Far Cry 3, where you’ll fight your way through a variety of unique environments teeming with blood-thirsty lunatics lead by a clinically-insane warlord named Vaas. Much like the 2012 game, Far Cry VR has you and your friends taking on the roles of innocent tourists who—after a series of unfortunate events— find themselves on the run from an army of henchmen in the ultimate game of cat and mouse.

“We’re always looking for new ways to provide our players with the very best entertainment the free-roam VR industry has to offer, and our new Far Cry® VR: Dive into Insanity experience is exceptional,” said Tim Ruse, CEO of Zero Latency VR, in an official statement. “We worked closely with Ubisoft to make sure the action-packed world of Far Cry would feel authentic for fans and entice new players as well.”

The cooperative VR shooter features support for up to eight players and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Based on the images and video provided, players appear to be wearing HP Reverb G2 VR headsets, which should offer impressive visuals thanks to the 2160×2160 per-eye resolution.

In terms of controls, players appear to be using Zero Latency’s custom gun peripherals, which feature realistic haptic feedback technology designed to simulate the feeling of kickback when firing a weapon; all of which powered by an HP Z VR backpack, allowing for high-quality PCVR content minus the need for cables and a tethered PC.

“Bolstered by Zero Latency’s one-of-a-kind concept, free-roaming VR is an excellent way for gamers and non-gamers alike to explore the vivid world of Far Cry,” added Deborah Papiernik, VP of New Business at Ubisoft. “We’re thrilled to offer a game that brings people together to create memorable moments.”

Back in 2019, we had the chance to go hands-on with another Zero Latency game, Sol Raiders. This fast-paced multiplayer VR game took inspiration from esports-ready VR games to offer a competitive PvP experience featuring one-of-a-kind safety mechanics that allowed for intense close-quarters combat.

Except for a handful of small hiccups, the location-based free-roam VR game offered plenty of incredible moments that would have been impossible to replicate using at-home consumer VR technology. With Zero Latency having since updated its system with new hardware, it’ll be exciting to see what improvements the company has made with Far Cry VR.
