Catch an exlcusive performance from the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers captured in immersive 180-degrees.
Believe it or not, Super Bowl LVI 2022 is shaping up to be a significant day for the VR industry. Last week we learned that Meta will be airing a 60-second ad for Meta Quest 2 and Horizon Worlds, the company’s growing VR metaverse, during the big game. Earlier today, Meta revealed yet another surprise on the way: an exclusive VR concert featuring the GRAMMY award-winning american rock band Foo Fighters.
Following the conclusion of the game, those on Meta Quest and Meta Quest 2 headsets can log into Horizon Venues, Meta’s virtual events platform, to catch a performance by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers captured using a number of 180-degree cameras. The show was directed by famous music video director Mark Romanek and employs a unique combination of practical effects and XR elements to deliver a captivating virtual experience unlike anything we’ve seen in Venues.
“Foo Fighters love a challenge—from playing the biggest stages in the world to the tiniest clubs to making movies and miniseries… We’ve pretty much done it all,” said Dave Grohl, founder and frontman of the group in the blog update. “But we’ve never collaborated with Mark Romanek on a conceptual set of songs (including one being played live for the first time ever) for a worldwide audience, where everyone has the best seats in the house thanks to the most badass VR tech… until now. Join us when we cross that one off the FF bucket list!”
The show is scheduled to air on February 13th at 8pm PT, directly following the game. Those who miss the show can watch a replay anytime in Venues’ “Always On” room or Oculus TV. You can also watch the show in standard 2D via Facebook Watch on the Foo Fighters Facebook Page, Meta Quest Facebook Page, Foo Fighters’ Instagram, and on Portal and Messenger via Watch Together.
