Explore Hogwarts and fly a broomstick in these social VR experiences coming soon to the Harry Potter flagship store.
Last month, Warner Bros. launched the first official Harry Potter Store in NYC, offering fans of the long-running book and film franchise the chance to immerse themselves in the Wizarding World while, of course, shopping for official brand merchandise. The store is so popular, in fact, that there’s a virtual queue you need to join before you can even enter the otherworldly premises.
As if this magical hotspot wasn’t popular enough already, next month the store is introducing two limited-time Harry Potter-themed location-based VR experiences featuring haptic feedback technology, sensory effects, and unique interactive elements. Developed by WarnerMedia in collaboration with Wevr, Keylight, and Dreamscape Immersive, each experience can be enjoyed by up to six players simultaneously.
Thanks to a unique combination of motion capture technology, you’ll be able to see each other’s exact movements in VR in real-time, adding an additional layer of immersion to the experience.
HARRY POTTER: CHAOS AT HOGWARTS
In this social VR experience, groups of up to six players strap into VR backpacks and embark on a location-based free-roam adventure throughout the halls of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Using a wand-like controller to interact with the in-game world, you’ll come face-to-face with unique magical challenges and experience a variety of physical sensations thanks to a combination of haptic technology and other special effects.
There’s even foot and hand tracking, allowing you to see your teammates’ exact movements in VR in real-time. The experience also features its own unique staging area complete with unique props and decorations from the Harry Potter universe.
HARRY POTTER: WIZARDS TAKE FLIGHT
Whereas Chaos at Hogwarts has you exploring the halls of everyone’s favorite fictional school, Wizards Take Flight takes you to the skies above London where you and up to five other players will do battle with terrifying Death Eaters. Instead of VR backpacks, you’ll hop aboard your own physical broom and battle airborne enemies using a wand-like controller.
Like Chaos at Hogwarts, Wizards Take Flight features a variety of haptics and sensory effects, such as artificial wind. The experience also comes with its own IRL staging area located directly inside the Harry Potter Store.
Both experiences will be available at the Harry Potter Store in NYC from July 15th to August 15th. Advance tickets can be purchased now for $34.99 per guest. Those with a ticket will be able to skip the virtual queue and shop at the store before and after the experience, which should last roughly 30 minutes, set up and breakdown included.
