Pixel Toys’ Warhammer 40,000: Battle Sister recently got a Quest 2 graphics update, and the results are pretty stunning.
We put the new graphics patch, which released at the end of February, up against the current version you’ll find on Quest 1. The recent patch added dynamic shadows, doubled texture resolution, reflections on metallic surfaces and then has seen a lighting pass on both Quest 1 and 2. While the former version definitely looks improved, Quest 2 now features much more complex lighting and better-looking environments, as you can see in our comparison video below.

It’s a pretty striking comparison and a great showcase of how developers can push their VR games further on Quest 2. The patch also fixes a bunch of bugs and adds achievements to the game.
There’s more to come for Battle Sister, too. Pixel Toys says the next update will include the long-anticipated cooperative multilayer mode, Last Bastion Horde and other updates are due throughout the year.
These updates improve an already very decent Warhammer VR game. We said Battle Sister was on the shallow side, but had some great moments. “It’d likely feel just as at home played on a screen with a controller in hand as it would in VR, but the chance to peer down the sights of a Bolter or exercise righteous justice with a Power Sword will please many a 40K fan,” we said, giving the game 3/5. “As far as ticking the boxes go for VR shooters, it does enough to warrant a look if your back catalog is empty.”
