Doctor Who: The Edge of Time is available now on PSVR 2.
Launched in 2019, Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time sees you play an unnamed companion for Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor. Initially revealed by a store listing, Maze Theory informed UploadVR this is a direct re-release of the PSVR version with the Time Lord Victorious DLC included from the start and a new Platinum trophy. There won’t be any PSVR 2-specific upgrades like eye tracking or adaptive triggers, and The Edge Of Time supports 90Hz refresh rate.
Though Playstack published the initial release, Maze Theory has taken over publishing duties on PSVR 2. The studio informed UploadVR that there won’t be a direct upgrade path for existing owners because of this, though they have prepared an alternative solution.
“We’ve decided to offer codes to anyone who owns the original game and can provide proof of purchase,” the studio confirms.
We had mixed opinions in our Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time review. While we believed the experience “lives and dies” by its fan service with some “great VR-infused moments,” we believed it often feels too safe.
The Edge of Time settles for bringing the series’ most tried and true elements directly into headsets in hopes of winning over dedicated fans. It plays more like a rejected episode of the TV series rather than something that fully embraces its platform. The Who faithful be satisfied in that safety, I suspect, but I personally can’t help but wish this was a little more dangerous.
Doctor Who: The Edge of Time is available now on PSVR 2, PSVR, Quest and Steam.
