Maya: The Birth promises a “uniquely female” superhero story, diving into a world of hidden shame on Quest.

Developed by JAPC and Floréal, Maya: The Birth comes from Poulomi Basu and CJ Clarke, with Maya’s name meaning magic and illusion in Sanskrit. Starring Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Charithra Chandran (Bridgerton) and Florrie Antoniou, the first chapter will be playable for the next week at the Tribeca Festival. “Welcome to London, a place where shame and fear grow strong,” the trailer begins, which you can watch below:

The first chapter will be playable for the next week at Tribeca, joining The Pirate Queen, Monstrorama, Pixel Ripped 1978 and other ‘immersive‘ experiences. Here’s the full synopsis:

An immersive story following Maya, an ordinary 21st century girl, as she transforms into a uniquely female superhero whose powers derive from the process of menstruation. With the arrival of her first period, Maya’s world is turned upside down as she is confronted by the restrictive traditions of her conservative family, and a world of hidden shame, stigma and taboo to be found in contemporary London.

Maya: The Birth (Chapter 1) can be played by Tribeca attendees from June 9-17, and the full experience is coming to Meta Quest headsets in September 2023.
