This is the closest you’ll likely get to owning an F1 car.
With the new season just around the corner, professional Formula 1 race teams have begun revealing the official liveries for their 2023 F1 cars. This includes Alfa Romeo—who this week unveiled a bold red-and-black design for its C43 race car. As part of the reveal, the company has released an animated 3D model that you can view in your home via augmented reality (AR).
All you need is a smartphone device and some open space. Simply visit the following website and download the free JigSpace app to get started. You can also sample the experience without having to download any additional software using Apple’s App Clip feature. You can then use touch controls to manipulate the size of the virtual F1 car as well as cycle through a handful of different models, some of which come animated.
“Bringing a car to life is a long process which touches every department of a racing team, therefore it’s a moment of great pride to see it unveiled today,” said Sauber Group Managing Director Alessandro Alunni Bravi, according to Formula1.com. “We chose to do it in front of our fans, close to our home, because the launch of a new car is not only a moment to state your objectives for the season ahead; it’s also a time to give back to the people who have supported you, be it in the grandstands, in front of the TV or back at the factory, and express our gratitude for their passion and their belief in our project.”
“The C43 is finally here, and I cannot wait to bring it on track,” added Valtteri Bottas, driver of Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake, in an official release. “I really like our new livery, I think it’s stunning, and a fine evolution from last year’s one. It’s been an interesting first season with the team, we made some pretty solid progress together, and now there’s only one direction to follow: up, higher, and better. There is obviously still work to do and things to improve, but I am confident we have it in ourselves to aim for even higher results this year. I cannot wait to go back to racing, I am fully charged and eager to get the new season started.”
