One of the best Star Wars VR games will soon be available on PC VR headsets for no charge.
Beginning November 24th, you can pick up Star Wars: Squadrons for free via the Epic Game Store and take part in deep space battles throughout a variety of famous and never-before-seen locations from the Star Wars Universe (SWU).
Originally released in 2020, this first-person dogfighting simulator allows you to pilot a variety of customizable starfighters. Star Wars: Squadrons features a single-player campaign in which you fight for both the New Republic as well as the Empire. The game also features competitive multiplayer. You can battle it out in strategic 5v5 battles or participate in large-scale fleet battles.
From the in-depth customization and satisfying gameplay to the jaw-dropping set pieces and stunning visuals, Star Wars: Squadrons is an expertly-crafted VR piloting experience, especially when paired with a compatible flight stick. Whether you’re a die-hard Star Wars fan or simply enjoy arcade flight games, Star Wars: Squadrons is a must-try.
“We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favorite starfighter,” said Ian Frazier, Creative Director, Motive Studios, in an official statement. “Through the collaboration of the teams at Motive and Lucasfilm, we’ve been able to create a high-fidelity starfighter experience with an authentic storyline that invites Star Wars fans to explore never-before-seen corners of the galaxy in their own ship. We’re excited to show all this in action this week at EA Play Live.”
If you move quickly you can pick up this VR gem for the low, low price of $0.00 (normally $39.99) from November 24th to December 1st via the Epic Game Store. You’ll have to set up an account with Epic if you haven’t already, but the process is free. In the meantime, check out our official beginner’s guide for some additional tips and tricks.
Star Wars: Squadrons is compatible with major PC VR headsets such as HTC Vive, Valve Index, Meta Rift, and Meta Quest via Air Link. Unfortunately, it sounds as though we shouldn’t expect any major updates for some time, if ever.
