Guitar Hero meets band camp in this off-beat rhythm game.
Earlier this week, Trombone Champ launched on PC via Steam, offering players the “world’s first” trombone-based rhythm music game. The one-of-a-kind game features over 20 tracks in which to perform as well as a free-play mode where you can improvise and toot to your heart’s content.
Despite having launched less than two weeks ago, a VR developer going by the name of Raicuparta has already started work on an unofficial VR mod for the game which allows you to play the brass instrument using your motion controllers. Yesterday, the developer shared a footage of himself playing in VR on Reddit, and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t look fun.
According to Raicuparta, the mod should be available sometime this week on PC VR headsets and Meta Quest via Link, Air Link, or a program such as Virtual Desktop. Trombone Champ is available now on PC via Steam for $14.99. Moving forward, developer Holy Cow plans on introducing new music, additional accessibility options, and various other improvements.
For more information on the Trombone Champ VR mod visit the Flat2VR Modding or Trombone Champ Modding / Custom Song Discords. Raicuparta is the same developer behind popular VR mods for games like Outer Wilds, Firewatch, and The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe just to name a few.
With such a solid track record of expertly-crafted VR mods, we can’t wait to check out Trombone Champ VR for ourselves when it launches sometime later this week.
If you’re a fan of rhythm music games and currently have access to a VR headset, we highly recommend checking out other popular titles such as Ragnarock, Pistol Whip, and Synth Riders just to name a few.
