Celebrate your favorite professional team in this limited-time event.
Popular VR social platform Rec Room today announced that it has partnered with the National Basketball Association (NBA) for a special in-game event that will take place throughout the 2022 NBA postseason. In the main Rec Center lobby, you’ll now find a variety of new basketball-themed content designed to celebrate the 2022 NBA playoffs.
You can hit the court and play basketball against other players and customize your avatar with a variety of official NBA accessories, including 30 new shirts for each NBA team, from the Chicago Bulls to the Los Angeles Lakers. There’s even an interactive NBA-themed basketball to dunk on fools.
This new content is available now for free on all Rec Room VR platforms—including Meta Quest, PC VR, and PlayStation VR—as well as non-VR platforms such as PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and mobile (iOS & Android).
Rec Room’s partnership with the NBA is just another example of the many partnerships being made between major brands and metaverse platforms. Just recently, fast-food chain Wendy’s launched its own virtual world called ‘The Wendysverse’ inside Meta’s (formerly Facebook) Horizon Worlds metaverse. Prior to this, Nike launched its own Nikeland virtual world inside the popular kids’ platform Roblox. LeBron James even stopped by in-game to support the event.
