Immersive technology makes its way to the oche.
A new AR (augmented reality) experience has opened at Holey Moley Golf Club in Darlinghurst, Australia that allows visitors to compete in a variety of one-of-a-kind games. Developed by Funlab, the same team behind popular games and amusements such as Strike Bowling and Holey Moley, La Di Darts blends the real world with the digital using interactive projection technology.
Groups of up to six can reserve their own private oche (the term used to describe the throw line in darts) complete with comfortable lounge chairs and other retro decor inspired by the Roaring Twenties. At the end of each lane is a specially designed dartboard that’s been enhanced using interactive projection technology. Visitors can choose from four different games throughout their 60-90 minute time slots, including Killer and 301, according to Broadsheet. Scores are stored automatically electronically, so you don’t have to worry about someone trying to pull a fast one.
“Another fun element of La Di Darts that differs from the traditional game is the opportunity to personalize your experience – players can take [photos] and assign their own pictures to avatars to be featured on the big screen, which are perfect for a humble brag when they bag a bullseye,” said Jensen Macdougall, Funlab’s operations manager while speaking to Broadsheet.
Between this and the SPARK Augmented Reality Bowling experience we reported on last week, projection mapping sports appear to be having a sort of quiet renaissance. Blending immersive technology with real-world sports could be just the thing location-based entertainment venues need to increase foot traffic post-pandemic by offering visitors an experience difficult or straight-up impossible to replicate at home.
For those lucky enough to find themselves in the Darlinghurst area, bookings for La Di Darts are available now at ladidarts.com.au. The venue accepts bookings for groups of four or more on Friday and Saturday and groups of two or more on Thursday through Sunday.
