Customize your hand gestures to activate specific visual and haptic feedback experiences.
The company NuEyes has partnered with ManoMotion to incorporate hand tracking and gesture technology into the NuEyes Pro 3 AR smartglasses, a move that will help make the 5G enabled glasses even more appealing to enterprise customers and even gamers.
To activate the controls you simply put your hands up in front of the glasses so the external sensors can see them, t which point the device will begin tracking your hand movements through 21 points of articulation; six points on your wrists and three points on each finger.
This will give you the ability to grab virtual items simply by doing things such as clenching your hands to grab an item or doing a picking motion with your thumb and pointer finger. To release a virtual object you simply let go of it. Tracking is designed to be very natural and should eliminate any type of learning curve.
The sensors are able to identify your left and right hands as well as whether you’re looking at the palm or backside. Gesture controls can be customized through an app to activate menus and can provide visual and haptic feedback.
What is really interesting is that the NuEyes Pro 3 controls can work with any hand prosthetic, however, there isn’t a lot of information available on that at the moment.
“ManoMotion’s high-performance, low-footprint hand tracking, and gesture technology will enable Pro 3 users to interact in AR with natural hand movements and gestures,” said Mark Greget, founder and CEO of NuEyes Technologies. Greget adds, “Hand tracking is a key enabling technology to drive growth in AR applications.”
NuEyes glasses are designed to be incredibly lightweight and very comfortable. They are able to project AR content in front of you that looks like you are watching a 148” TV screen in full 1080p HD at 60 FPS.
They also offer a killer color contrast of 100,000 to 1 and have speakers built into the frames. Adding hand tracking is a huge plus for the company whose goal is to bring AR into markets such as medical, enterprise, gaming, and entertainment.
One big difference between the NuEyes Pro 3e and the Pro 3 is that the Pro 3 glasses offer a 13-megapixel camera whereas the Pro 3e does not, making it a great enterprise headset thanks to the added capabilities of gesture control and remote assistant, which allows technicians to work with a colleague to see what they are seeing.
During a conversation with Fraser Bowie, Chief Product Officer for NuEyes, he explained how adding hand gesture capabilities to the NuEyes Pro 3 is a game-changer for connectivity, security, interaction, and versatility. The enterprise workforce can easily connect their glasses to a USB-C device you may already use such as an Android smartphone, PC, or Apple computer to access AR content and then be able to control the experience in a way that feels natural.
“We are very excited to partner with NuEyes to enable our hand tracking solution in their Pro 3 system. The Pro 3 is a very innovative product and ManoMotion will enable more natural and intuitive user experiences in their AR applications,” said Lars Österberg, CEO of ManoMotion.
