A huge new Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades (H3VR) update is now live with its “most challenging” level yet on PC VR.
Marking the 111th update since launch in 2016, the H3VR update introduces a huge new brutalist level designed by developer Anton Hand over the course of about six months. Set within a vast underground complex, the “Institution” presents a series of escalating combat challenges that require full use of H3VR’s weapons arsenal. You can see this in action below:
The Institution Update also expands H3VR’s tactical roguelite mode, Take & Hold, adding new enemies and hazards. In particular, there’s also a new character to choose from — Tournament Toby — developed based on feedback from players in H3VR’s competitive scene.
“Institution is about realizing what I’d always imagined back when first making Take & Hold,” says Anton Hand, Project Lead, in a prepared statement. “It’s everything I find most compelling about a virtual space. Grand in scale. Simultaneously oppressive and alienating but also somehow cozy? All-consuming. Self-awarely synthetic but hyper-tangible. The environment itself is my main character.”
Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades is available now for $19.99 on SteamVR and, if you’ve got a Quest 2, Quest 3 or Quest Pro and a powerful enough gaming PC, the platinum-selling title is an obvious candidate to check out using Valve’s new Steam Link app.
