Ubisoft tells UploadVR it is working with “a new partner“ on Just Dance VR.
Announced last September as Pico’s first major exclusive, Ubisoft’s since been quiet on Just Dance VR, which was scheduled for this year. Following news that Pico cancelled its Beat Saber-style competitor, Blitz Rhythm, as part of wider layoffs, UploadVR asked Ubisoft if Just Dance VR is still in development and if it remains Pico exclusive. Ubisoft responded to UploadVR over email today:
We are working with a new partner for Just Dance VR and we’ll have more details, including the release date, at a later time.
While the comment doesn’t name the new partner, there are a few obvious candidates. Meta would be the likeliest to fund the project considering Ubisoft’s recent Assassin’s Creed Nexus is currently Quest exclusive. However, the title could have been picked up by Sony or an unexpected partner like Apple.
Not much is known about this VR adaptation for the popular annual rhythm series. Platforms and a release window are obviously still unconfirmed, but the fact that Ubisoft committed to giving those details at “a later time” gives hope to players looking forward to seeing this adaptation on headsets.
