X8, a 5v5 multiplayer hero shooter similar to Valorant and Overwatch, leaves early access for full release today on Quest and PC VR.
A free-to-play game with cross-platform support, X8 first released in early access this May, later receiving updates like the Neo-Yakuza map. Officially launching its full release later today after nearly six months, Thirdverse provided UploadVR an exclusive look at the new launch trailer, which you can watch below:
With matches taking place over 14 rounds, each X8 hero boasts three special abilities and hero-specific items to provide unique “strategical advantages.” Working alongside your teammates, you must collaborate to either deploy a data-siphoning device that detonates after a countdown, while the defensive team attempts to deactivate it.
To celebrate the release, X8 is offering a discount on the game’s ‘Founder’s pack’ on Quest. Featuring four new weapons, any players who download X8 before December 7 can purchase the pack with a 25% discount.
“When we started planning for our next VR game, we noticed that there weren’t any VR Hero shooter games, despite it being an already major genre in the traditional gaming space, so we found an opportunity,” said Masaru Ohnogi, Co-Founder & CBO at Thirdverse in a prepared statement. “What we learned for X8 spans game mechanics balancing and optimization, esports features, global team and community building, and VR game PR/marketing. All of this learning came from our community, and we really appreciate it.”
X8 leaves early access on SteamVR and the Meta Quest platform today, while Pico and PSVR 2 versions are “coming soon.”
