In a recent interview, Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan confirmed there are “many more” PSVR 2 titles coming in 2023 and beyond.
Speaking with Japanese publication Famitsu, Ryan discussed several topics, such as the Japanese market, Spider-Man 2 and PC ports. Asked about the popularity of PSVR 2, Ryan calls it “premature” to judge following February’s release but states he’s pleased with the reception. Highlighting how they released over 40 PSVR 2 launch games, he confirms there are “many more titles” to come.
Here’s the full translated response:
It may be a bit premature to judge the adoption of PS VR2 as it has only recently launched, but I am pleased to have received a large amount of positive feedback from our users and the media. I mentioned a few of the supported titles earlier, but we have released over 40 titles across the launch window, with many more titles upcoming for 2023 and beyond. We will continue our push, both for the purchasers of PS VR2 to be able to enjoy it in the long term, and for us to be able to ensure our profits.
It’s not a particularly surprising comment from Ryan, as Sony previously confirmed there’s over 100+ projects in the pipeline for PSVR 2. Next week’s PlayStation Showcase also promises an hour presentation with new PS5 and PSVR 2 announcements. It’s a chance for Sony to shed criticism about its library as, beyond first-party exclusives like Horizon Call of the Mountain and Gran Turismo 7, most PSVR 2 games are also on Meta Quest 2.
Right now, there are still plenty of upcoming PSVR 2 games awaiting release dates, including Firewall Ultra, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, Beat Saber, Solaris Offworld Combat 2, Among Us VR and Resident Evil 4 Remake. While new PSVR 2 game reveals seem likely, there’s a good chance we’ll learn more about some of these known games during the PlayStation Showcase on May 24.
