Eye of the Temple releases next week on Quest 2, so get those whips cracking!
Created by solo developer Rune Skovbo Johansen, Eye of the Temple is a unique room-scale platformer that initially launched for PC VR in 2021. It arrives on Quest 2 on April 27, featuring an Indiana Jones-style adventure that requires a minimum playspace of 2m x 2m. Johansen is collaborating with Salmi Games to bring the Quest 2 port to life on standalone hardware for the first time.
You’ll explore ancient temples, dodge obstacles and step onto moving blocks while solving environmental puzzles. However, the game’s unique element is its movement system, which doesn’t use artificial locomotion or a teleport system, but instead employs fully physical movement in a room-scale play space.
Getting Eye of the Temple ported to the standalone Quest hardware has been a challenge for the development team. Johansen stated that the team is “incredibly proud of what we achieved on a technical level” with the Quest port, adding that “the room-scale nature of the game makes it a perfect fit for a standalone headset.”
Eye of the Temple is available to wishlist for Quest 2 and Quest Pro now. Keep an eye out for our full review on release next week, but in the meantime, check out our preview impressions from 2020 for more info.
