These monstrous arachnids never stood a chance…
According to research, arachnophobia, aka the fear of spiders, could affect up to roughly 6.1% of the global population. Immersive technology, including VR and AR, is currently being used by professional health organizations to help combat this common phobia.
There’s also Kill It With Fire, a first-person spider-killing experience from developer Casey Donnellan Games that might be just as if not more therapeutic to play.
Available today on major VR headsets, this over-the-top VR experience tasks you with murdering a seemingly-endless army of eight-legged monsters using an arsenal of wildly-unnecessary weaponry, from flamethrowers and frying pans to rocket launchers and submachine guns. You also have access to advanced spider-hunting technology.
Here’s a list of interesting features you can expect (as provided by the developer):
- “A large arsenal of unique weapons and equipment.
- Eight different spider species.
- A ‘realistic’ fire simulation system.
- Gratuitous chaos and destruction.
- Dozens of optional objectives.
- Loads of hidden upgrades.
- Battle in the Arachno-Gauntlet!
- A secret ending?!?! (…shh!).”
Kill It With Fire VR is available now on Quest 2, Quest Pro, PC VR, and PlayStation VR headsets for $14.99. Those without a VR headset can play the original 2020 game on PC for $5.99.
