Explore the real world to breed new and fantastic creatures.

Almost a year after its initial reveal, Pokémon GO creator Niantic is set to launch its latest location-based augmented reality (AR) game for smartphones, Peridot. Similar to Tamagotchi, the handheld digital pet released in 1996, the adorable-looking game tasks you with raising digital creatures, referred to as “Peridots” or “Dots,” from birth to adulthood.

In addition to feeding and playing with your Dots, you can take them on adventures throughout the real world. Once they’ve reached adulthood, your virtual companions can hatch new generations of Peridots. According to the development team, every Peridot is 100% unique and can feature anything from goat horns to a giant bushy tail. Some Dots even resemble creatures such as cheetahs, dragons, and unicorns.

“Our team has marked a handful of these that we’ve identified as “Archetypes” (such as “Unicorn”, “Clownfish”, etc.),” said the Peridot team in an official blog post. “But if this excites you, it will be your responsibility as a Keeper to work with other Keepers to cross-Hatch your Dots and discover all the different combinations that are possible, including ones beyond ALL of our imaginations.”

“These are creatures who feel so real, you’ll love every moment raising them from birth to adulthood,” Ziah Fogel, Senior Producer in another post. “While you explore the world together, you’ll get to learn more about your cute new friends, develop a bond as you nurture and play with them, and work with other players to diversify their species.”

Peridot will launch globally on May 9th on iOS and Android devices. Those interested can pre-register now via the App Store and Google Play. Those who sign-up within the first two weeks of the launch will receive an exclusive party hast cosmetic for their Dots.
