New PGA TOUR game experiences will be added starting in 2023.
This week it was announced that the PGA TOUR has partnered with GOLF+ to make it the “Official Virtual Reality Golf Game of the PGA TOUR.” As part of the deal, the popular VR golf simulator will begin to add new PGA TOUR-themed content tied to real-world tournaments.
Beginning in early 2023, you’ll be able to compete on two legendary courses: TPC Scottsdale and TPC Sawgrass. According to the organization, additional courses and content will be added over the coming years, further expanding the platform’s existing catalog of real-world venues.
“The PGA TOUR is excited to work with GOLF+, the leading golf game in the emerging VR gaming market,” said Len Brown, PGA TOUR chief legal officer and EVP of licensing in an official release.
“The GOLF+ VR platform is a forward-thinking way to enjoy the sport that is appealing to gamers and golfers of all levels, and an innovative way for people to play the game of golf and grow the sport globally,” she added. “The TOUR will support the partnership with new courses, ShotLink powered by CDW data, shot trails and video highlights from PGA TOUR competitions.”
“We look forward to working with the PGA TOUR as it provides the ability to present unparalleled interactive tournament experiences to our players in VR,” added Ryan Engle, co-founder and CEO of GOLF+. “We are both committed to using innovative technology and interactive experiences to reach new golfers worldwide and grow the game we love.”
GOLF+’s partnership with the PGA TOUR is just the latest in a series of exciting announcements from the growing VR sports platform. This past October, it was revealed that professional golfers Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth have both signed on as investors, joining other popular athletes like Ben Crenshaw, Tom Brady, Steph Curry and Mike Trout.
“Beyond providing one of the best VR sports experiences in the world, GOLF+ will now offer a new way for fans to enjoy the excitement of the PGA TOUR,” said McIlroy. “This technology has the power to not only bring new people to the game of golf, but also evolve the way the PGA TOUR is seen and experienced by golfers and gamers everywhere.”
In addition to being able to play at real-world venues such as Pebble Beach Golf Links and Wolf Creek Golf Club, you can also meet up with friends at Topgolf for some arcade fun. Other interesting features include a Clubhouse with a practice area, miniature golf, and a dedicated media player. There are also customizable grips, shafts, and golf balls.
GOLF+ is available now for $29.99 on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro VR headsets. The first two PGA TOUR courses will be available in February 2023. For more information visit here.
