Your very own dragon is just a QR code away…
World of Warcraft, the immensely popular massively-multiplayer online (MMO) game, has just received its own original augmented reality (AR) experience that allows you to snap selfies with a stable of virtual dragons in the real world.
Available now on smartphones, Dragonflight is a WebAR experience, which means you don’t need to download any additional apps in order to access it. All you have to do is scan the QR code provided with your smartphone and allow the website access to your camera.
There are four dragons in total to pose with: Proto-Dragon, Highland Drake, Wylderdrake, and Velocidrak. Each of these mystical beasts can be repositioned throughout your real-world space as well as resized using basic touch controls.
Once you’ve found the perfect spot for your virtual dragon you can use your forward-facing or selfie camera to snap a photo to share with friends or family. You can even command your dragon to perform certain gestures.
The Dragonflight AR experience arrives just ahead of World of Warcraft’s Dragonflight expansion, which introduces personal dragons you can fly around Azeroth.
To help spread the word, the game’s developer, Blizzard, enlisted the help of Hollywood actors such as Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones) and David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow).
You can access the Dragonflight AR experience by scanning the QR code provided above. For more information visit getyourowndragon.com.
