Battle an onslaught of virtual intruders in this mixed reality shooter for Quest 2 and Quest Pro.
With the launch of Meta Quest Pro comes full-color passthrough technology, opening the doors for a whole new generation of immersive mixed reality games and apps. Despite having released less than a month ago, Meta’s latest VR headset already features a solid lineup of mixed reality content, from I Expect You To Die: Home Sweet Home to Wooorld.
We’ve also begun to see many indie developers try their hands at creating their own reality-bending games and apps. This includes FPS Enhanced Reality, a “passthrough first-person game” that turns your real-world environment into a mixed reality battlefield.
Available now on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro, this house-scale first-person shooter tasks you with surviving an onslaught of virtual intruders armed to the teeth with high-powered weaponry. Thankfully, you yourself have access to five unique weapons and plenty of virtual ammo.
Before you can start playing you’ll need to map your home using the built-in House Scale MR setup which, according to the developer, takes less than five minutes for experienced users to complete. Once you’ve finished calibrating, enemy AI will interact realistically with your home, offering a more realistic combat experience.
Based on the video, the game also appears to feature various environmental effects, such as bullet holes and dust from ricochets.
FPS Enhanced Reality is available now for $9.99 on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro via SideQuest. The game is still a work in progress, so expect additional updates in the future, such as a sandbox mode, target practice, and additional bug fixes just to name a few. According to the developer, App Lab approval is pending.
