One of 2022’s most talked about games looks absolutely stunning in VR.
This past July, Stray was released on consoles and PC, offering players the chance to step into the shoes (paws?) of a fearless feline who, after a series of unfortunate events, finds themself trapped in a futuristic urban hellscape.
In addition to its stunning visuals, the third-person adventure game features a heart-wrenching storyline propelled by an eclectic cast of supporting characters.
Now, thanks to mods, you’ll soon be able to immerse yourself even further in BlueTwelve Studio’s expertly-crafted single-player experience. Earlier today, Reddit user elliotttate shared footage of the game being played in first-person on a PC VR headset using Praydog’s soon-to-be-released Unreal Engine VR Injector Mod.
First revealed by the VR modding community Flat2VR, this new mod can supposedly turn any 2D flatscreen game developed using Unreal Engine 4 or 5 into a VR experience. This includes popular games such as Back For Blood, Ghostrunner, Life Is Strange, and Stray just to name a few.
The mod boasts a number of impressive features, from immersive 6DOF movement and detached look (players can move their heads and weapons independently from one another) to synced eye rendering.
All you have to do is start the game and then run the VR Injector Mod. While VR motion controls aren’t supported at this time, developers will be free to implement their own controls as they see fit. Here’s hoping “cat locomotion” is on the way soon.
No word yet on an official release date just yet. For more information check out the Flat2VR Discord or follow their Twitter.
