Monkeypaw Productions has partnered with Meta to bring his collection of unique films to life in Horizon Worlds.
Writer and director Jordan Peele (Key & Peele, Get Out) has carved himself a nice little niche in the film industry with his series of unique comedy-horror films. 2017’s Get Out was a smash-hit, finishing first at the box office during its opening weekend. His latest project, another off-beat horror film called NOPE, is set to arrive in theaters next week.
Ahead of the film’s release, Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions announced that it has partnered with Meta to bring his collection of films to life in the metaverse. Those with a Meta Quest 2 headset can log on now to Horizon Worlds and explore two new worlds inspired by films such as Get Out, NOPE, and Us.
Monkeypaw Productions: All Aboard has you traveling on a virtual train that leads to different worlds. Exploring the cabins you’ll find a variety of easter eggs from the studio’s different films. There’s also NOPE World: by Monkeypaw Productions where you can explore a virtual recreation of the Haywood Ranch from NOPE and immerse yourself in a variety of mini-games.
“Through this VR experience we’ve developed with Universal and Monkeypaw, people can fully immerse themselves in Jordan Peele’s cinematic artistry,” said Katie Jones, NA Studio Partnerships Lead at Meta in an official release. “This is a unique opportunity for moviegoers to explore this world with fellow fans, and for our partners to connect with their audiences in innovative ways.”
Each world was built with the assistance of experienced Horizon Worlds creators Ashley Briley (Ashes2Ashes2), Matt Torres (Tellous), and Samantha Nunoo (SammyX09). In order to avoid any potential spoilers, the creators were given zero information about the new film other than what was shown in the trailers.
“Monkeypaw has been great at providing feedback and helping us bring in details from the movie,” added Matt Torres. “We’ve watched the trailers so many times and got to bring in elements that we loved. Meta has also been key in helping us hone in on ideas for the world. It’s a great place to hang out and experience what it’s like being at Haywood Ranch.”
Both of these virtual worlds are open now to the public via Horizon Worlds, which is available free on Meta Quest 2 VR headsets. For more information check out Meta’s official blog post. According to the company, two additional worlds, Get Out World: by Monkeypaw Productions and Us World: by Monkeypaw Productions will be available this summer.
Previously only available in the US and Canada, Horizon Worlds made its official UK debut last month, allowing even more Quest 2 users the chance to explore a variety of worlds and games as well as build their own.
