No more having to look up at the jumbotron during live games to see stats.
AR sports entertainment company Quintar and AT&T are partnering to change the way you watch live sports by allowing you access to AR content in arenas and sports venues as the games are being played using AT&T 5G network. The fan technology platform promises to be a gamechanger for sports entertainment by reinventing how you experience live games.
Instead of having to look up at the jumbotron for stats or replays during the game, you’ll instead use your mobile device to access AR content layered over the real world in real-time. This could be anything from playbook graphics and player stats to various other information you might see while watching the game at home on your TV. This will be achieved using a first-of-its-kind platform called Q.reality.
“The energy you feel watching a game in-person is powerful. We’re exploring ways to build on that with an immersive experience that uses engaging graphics and augmented visualizations powered by AT&T 5G,” said Glenn Couper, Assistant Vice President, 5G Product & Innovation, AT&T in an official press release.
“Today’s fans are more data-driven than ever, and Quintar has the tools to expand a fans viewing experience by layering the digital world around them, while AT&T 5G has the high capacity and low latency to customize the content in an engaging way that blends the physical and digital worlds using AR. We’re excited to work together and deliver what fans need to stay informed in a way that compliments the live-action they came to watch.”
Currently, AT&T has an exclusive deal to be the official 5G wireless network for the NBA and WNBA, which will be the infrastructure that Quintar will use to deliver AR content to your phone as you root on your favorite basketball team.
Just recently, Quintar was named the official Mobile AR Developer of the PGA Tour and as such will be using their Q.reality platform to deliver accurate real-world AR content through a variety of golf-related metaverse experiences with the goal of producing a more natural blend of physical and digital content, which also happens to be the same platform being used with the NBA and WNBA.
Having a partnership with AT&T will greatly expand Q.reality’s outreach with other sports and even possibly live concert events, not some mention offer some killer content for all types of fans.
In the same press release, Buddy Scott, Quintar Senior Vice President, Platform Products and Experiences talked about his excitement about this new partnership, saying, “The reason I’m beyond excited for sports fans is that augmented reality is about to transform from a tool that has only been used to deliver marketing gimmicks around the game to a highly personal, naturally simple, and indispensable companion to watching games,” with Scott adding, “The Quintar platform, which delivers accurate long-range AR visualization, combined with AT&T 5G, transforms attending home games into powerfully meaningful in-game, on-the-court AR metaverse experiences.”
Q.reality is device agnostic, meaning you’ll be able to use your iPhone or your Android device to access AR content. The platform is designed to deliver cool interactive content no matter where you are sitting, whether you are sitting courtside or stuck in the nosebleeds
