Good news for all you F1 fanatics.
Video game publisher EA Sports today announced that F1 22 will be arriving on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms on July 1st, 2022. The latest in the beloved series based on the world-renowned international racing league, F1 22 will return players to the track where they can race new supercars throughout a variety of fast-paced game modes, both new and familiar.
The critically-acclaimed ‘MyTeam’ mode will make a glorious return, allowing you to manage and race your very own F1 team. Replacing F1 21’s ‘Braking Point’ story mode is ‘F1 Life’, a new customizable hub where you can purchase and display supercars, clothing, and accessories. Other than that players can expect new supercars to race, real-world courses to master, and race day challenges to complete.
Arguably the most exciting news from todays announcement, however, was the reveal of PC VR support. F1 22 will be the first game in the series to feature support for SteamVR compatible headsets like the Meta Rift, HTC Vive, and Valve Index—to what extent we do not know. We could be looking at full-fledged VR support or a dedicated game mode separate from the rest of the game.
Whatever the case, confirmation of VR support should come as exciting news for the VR racing community. Popular games such as Project Cars 3 and Assetto Corsa have shown just how far the VR racing genre has come. With demand for high-end racing simulators on the rise, thanks in large part to the COVID-19 lockdowns, F1 22 is smart to include VR support has part of its launch.
“We look forward to welcoming our players to the new era of Formula 1,” said Lee Mather, F1 Senior Creative Director at Codemasters in an official release. “Alongside the real-world changes, we have updated the physics to accommodate the new aero rules and reworked the tyre model, making the handling more true to life.“
“With new and updated circuits, adaptive AI, ‘F1 Life’, and expanded gameplay options, there has never been a better time for players to take their seats and live the life of an F1 driver.”
F1 22 launches July 1st, 2022 on PC via Steam and the Epic Game Store, PS4 & PS5, and Xbox One & Xbox Series S|X. You will need to purchase the game for PC in order to play in VR. For more information on the game visit here.
