Wendy’s teases a “deliciously different” metaverse experience.
Earlier today, Wendy’s officially unveiled the Wendyverse, a virtual world built by community creators inside the metaverse. Beginning April 2nd, those with a Meta Quest 2 can sign in to Horizon Worlds, Meta’s growing metaverse platform, and explore a virtual Wendy’s restaurant, play a variety of interactive games, and shoot hoops using a virtual Baconator.
The Wendyverse, in its current iteration, is composed of two primary locations. At the Wendyverse Town Square Central you can jump behind the counter and serve up virtual meals to hungry avatars while rocking the latest Wendy’s merch. In the Wendyverse Partnership Plaza you’ll find The Buck BiscuitDome. Here you can play a few games of basketball or fire exclusive Wendy’s apparel at other players using a virtual t-shirt cannon.
“For years we’ve been meeting our fans in unexpected ways and places with our unique approach to social media, gaming and engagement,” said Carl Loredo, chief marketing officer for The Wendy’s Company in an official release. “We’re excited to take this to the next level by launching the Wendyverse in Meta’s Horizon Worlds and bringing a totally new dimension of access to our fans. Truly a first of its kind, the Wendyverse bridges the best of today with tomorrow to show up for our fans across every world – with a Frosty® and fries in hand.”
According to Wendy’s, the virtual restaurant and arena are just the start of a much-larger vision for the future of the Wendyverse. Moving forward the company will continue experimenting with the immersive technology and its presence within the metaverse. We’ve already seen a number of fast-food company’s express interest in the growing metaverse market. For instance, last month McDonald’s announced plans to open a virtual restaurant inside the metaverse where customers could order real food for delivery.
“The full vision of metaverse may be years away, but brands should start experimenting on what their metaverse presence will be now,” said Vishal Shah, Meta’s Vice President of Metaverse. “There are experiences like Horizon Worlds which can give people a feeling of what it means to be together in an experience — it’s a great place to start.”
“Wendy’s, Meta’s Creative Shop and Horizon Worlds creators worked together to bring this experience to life,” added Nicky Bell, Meta’s Vice President of Creative Shop. “Wendy’s has always been an innovative leader in how they work with creators – building this world is a great example of how brands can show up in Horizon Worlds in intentional, meaningful ways with their communities.”
The Wendyverse is scheduled to open in Horizon Worlds on April 2nd. For more information visit here.
