The moral-based VR experience will be available later this year.
VR developer Maze Theory (Doctor Who: The Edge of Time) today unveiled Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, an original VR game based on the incredibly-popular British drama series of the same name. In this gorgeous-looking “gangster drama,” you’ll rub shoulders with characters from the show as you work to earn the trust of the Shelby family in the hopes of joining the infamous crime syndicate. Along the way, you’ll travel to famous locations from the show, such as Garrison Pub and Shelby’s Betting Shop.
According to Maze Theory, The King’s Ransom will feature AI-powered characters capable of delivering “reactive and believable” performances. The game features voice acting from the original cast, including Cillian Murphy (Thomas Shelby) and the wildly under-rated Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby), a well as easter eggs from the show.
Most interesting of all, however, is the decision-based gameplay. As you explore the criminal underworld, you’ll occasionally face “extreme moral decisions” which will affect how characters perceive you.
“For the first time, fans will have access to believable and responsive characters from Peaky Blinders, coming face-to-face with Tommy Shelby and encountering first-hand some terrifying situations. It’s an intense and thrilling experience,” said Maze Theory CEO Ian Hambleton in an official release. “We’re very excited to be giving fans and VR enthusiasts access to the Peaky Blinders’ world, transporting them back to 1920s Birmingham and putting them in iconic locations such as The Garrison and Charlie’s Yard.”
“Maze Theory has brought the world of Peaky Blinders to life in an entirely new way. Now you have the chance to walk the streets of Small Heath alongside the Shelby family. I can’t wait for the fans to experience this,” added Jamie Glazebrook, Executive Producer of Season 1 – 6 Peaky Blinders and Caryn Mandabach Productions.
No word yet on a price or release window, though Meta has confirmed the game will be available on the Quest platform later this year. For more information visit the official website.
