Rocket League meets Pacific Rim in this futuristic VR sports game coming to major VR platforms next year.
Resolution Games, the developer behind popular VR titles such as Demeo, Blaston, and Angry Birds VR, today announced its latest upcoming game, Ultimechs, a futuristic VR sports experience that will have you taking control of your own giant robot and competing in explosive PvP matches set within a next-gen arena.
“With Ultimechs we have created an entirely new gameplay mechanic that could only exist in the immersive world of VR,” said Tommy Palm, CEO of Resolution Games, in an official release. “Sure anyone can kick a ball into a net, but only in the world of Ultimechs can you and your mech punch it in by firing a rocket fist and controlling the trajectory as you follow along its path. And that just scratches the surface of Ultimechs. We’ve really stretched the boundaries of what can be done in VR in this game, and we can’t wait to share more details.”
Based on today’s announcement trailer and the information shared by Palm, it sounds as though we can expect a competitive gameplay experience similar to that of games like Rocket League, another futuristic sports game in which players use powerful rockets to carefully guide a massive ball into the opposing teams’ goal. Only instead of rocket cars, Ultimechs pilots will be in control of professional robot athletes.
Ultimechs marks the second VR sports game developed by Resolution Games. Back in October of last year, the company launched Blaston, a futuristic VR dueler in which players compete in fast-paced 1v1 battles using an assortment of outrageous weaponry. The developer has pumped out a number of hits over the years, from hilarious multiplayer experiences like Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale to colorful single-player experiences like its VR fishing game Bait!.
Ultimechs is scheduled to launch on major VR platforms sometime next year. No word yet on an official price, though the company does promise new information over the coming months.
