You’ll soon have the ability to transform pictures of anyone to appear as though they’re singing using the Snapchat app.
Snap Inc. today announced a major partnership with Sony Music Entertainment that will introduce its artists’ music to Snapchat’s Sounds library. Select tracks will be available as part of a new collection of “Sound Lenses,” coming soon to the app.
These audio-driven filters come in two flavors: The first is an AR lip-syncing Lens that makes it appear as though people in your photos are singing. The second is “Cameo Sound Lenses” which display a variety of visual effects similar to those you’d see in an animated music video. As per the partnership agreement, these Lenses will feature music from Sony Music Entertainment artists; no specifics on who just yet. Like the other Lenses available on the app, these Sound Lenses will be accessible via the Lens Carousel.
“With over 200 million Snapchatters engaging with augmented reality every day, we know they love using our Lenses to express themselves. So we’re expanding the music experience on Snapchat by adding Sounds into our AR Lenses available in the Lens Carousel and experimenting with new formats,” said the company in an official release.
Snap has continued to expand its collection of AR Lenses over the past several years. Recently the company unveiled the third iteration of its Snap Spectacles. Available exclusively to a handful of prominent creators, Spectacles 3 utilize the company’s proprietary Snap Spatial Engine to generate AR visuals in real-time, a first for the company. Just last week we covered a hilarious AR experience from prominent developer Lucas Rizzotto that utilizes this same technology to generate an AR racecourse.
Sound Lenses will be available soon via the Snapchat app, available free on iOS and Android.
