Travel back in time to learn more about the heroic deeds of Marvel Studios’ latest group of gorgeous super people.
Marvel Studios’ latest cinematic extravaganza, Eternals, is set to arrive in theaters next month, introducing a brand new collection of god-like superheroes to the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Since the dawn of mankind, the Eternals have protected the Earth from the Deviants, horrific monstrosities that have plagued humanity for thousands of years before disappearing mysteriously. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the film follows these ancient heroes as they unite to save the world from this apocalyptic threat.
Before you watch the film, you can learn more about this new ensemble of heroes with Marvel Studios’ first official ‘AR Story Experience,’ Eternals: AR Story Experience. Available now exclusively on compatible iOS devices, this unique immersive experience guides you through the backstory of the Eternal’s, highlighting their many heroic accomplishments across the millennia. Along the way, you’ll learn more about each of the Eternal’s and their unique abilities, from Makkari’s incredible speed to Kingo’s mind-blowing cosmic abilities.
Guiding you through the experience will be Sprite, an eternally young, ancient being and one-tenth of the Eternals. She’ll appear first in your real-world environment, explaining how the Eternals have helped shape mankind for the past 7,000 years. The team used over 100 cameras to capture volumetric videos of Sprite actress Lia McHugh for the experience.
After making herself comfortable in your home, Sprite then takes you on a journey through time where you learn more about the Eternal’s many heroic deeds as well as the heroes themselves. By physically moving around your environment, you can inspect each scene from various angles, allowing you to play the role of cinematographer in this cinematic storytelling experience.
“This experience explores AR as a storytelling medium. As you interact, the narrative unfolds
seamlessly all around you. It’s an immersive cinematic experience in your own home,” said
Daniel Baker, Senior Producer & Manager of Technology Innovation, in an official release.
I tried Eternals AR: Story Experience out for myself using a standard iPhone 12 and was impressed with the overall quality. Sprite looks absolutely fantastic in AR, as do the 3D set pieces showcasing the various other heroes. The experience ends with an unexpected turn of events, though I won’t spoil it for you here. Long story short, Eternals AR: Story Experience, while not exactly ground-breaking, is a quality companion experience worthy of the Marvel name.
Eternals AR: Story Experience is available now for free on iPhone and iPad. By scanning the App Clip Code with your iOS device, you can access a lightweight version of the app you can try before downloading. Eternals AR: Story Experience was developed using Apple’s ARKit developer framework.
