Everyone’s favorite vehicular soccer game Rocket League can now be played in VR. Well, sort of.
In a Reddit post made on Reddit earlier this week, user maxweisel shows off a prototype VR game that combines the sport of archery with Rocket League-style physics to deliver a one-of-a-kind competitive sports game in which players use their bow and arrows to sink buckets across a large playing field.
Those who’ve played Rocket League should feel right at home in this yet-to-be-titled PvP experience. The rules are simple: use your bow to fire projectiles at the ball in an attempt to score on your opponent’s net. In the latest version of the game, players can hold a max of three arrows at one time. Scattered across the field you’ll find various arrow pickup stations you can use to refill your supply. Tagging the ball automatically returns an arrow to your inventory. The more accurate your shots, the less you have to worry about your supply.
Those interested in checking the game out for themselves can DM maxweisel on Reddit for free access. Of course, the game is still very much in its early stages of development; any and all gameplay is subject to change. The prototype is available exclusively on Oculus Quest 2 for the moment, though the developer states that support for the original Oculus Quest should be possible with some additional optimization.
Based on the comments, the maxweisel may have a potential hit on their hands. The unique combination of archery gameplay and Rocket League-esque physics are a match made in heaven, especially when experienced in VR. Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see how the prototype continues to develop. Commenters have already begun offering their own recommendations for additional features, including additional bows and different types of arrows.
We’ll definitely be keeping our eye on this one-of-a-kind game moving forward.
