Take your game night to the next level with Evernever Games’ free-to-play VR party game.
One of the many things I’ve missed since going into lockdown is game night. There’s just something oddly comforting about gathering together with friends and family for some good old-fashioned board games. Neverboard, a social VR board game platform coming soon to Oculus Quest headsets, aims to recreate that same experience using VR technology.
Up to four players can meet up in a virtual space using their Oculus Avatars and compete in a variety of multiplayer experiences; some original, others inspired by real-world card and board games. At launch, Neverboard will feature four games, including a full version of Crazy 8s which can be played free of charge. The remaining three games will be available for purchase using an in-game currency which can be earned by playing the game or bought using real-world money.
Moving forward, developer Evernever Games plans on introducing additional games to the platform. Due to obvious licensing restrictions, the team is unable to incorporate any branded games, which is why they’re asking the community to come forward with any original ideas.
In addition to the aforementioned games, players can entertain (or distract) each other using a variety of interactive items and props. You can “play” musical instruments like the harmonica and maracas, start a food fight with some cake and pizza, and more.
“We are excited to see players finding the joy in being with others in VR during a time when being together while apart is more important than ever,” said creator Jasmine Bulin in an official release. “So many board games have this amazing power to enrich friendships and VR enhances the magic of the shared activity by allowing friends to play together anywhere and at any time. With Neverboard, friends around the globe can finally get game night back on the calendar.”
Neverboard launches exclusively on Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 headsets this fall. No word yet on an official price.
