Those with the fastest times at the end of the month will go home with $1,000 in cash.

Originally released on SteamVR headsets this past March, VR arcade racer Z-Race is now available to demo on Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 headsets, offering standalone players an adrenaline-fueled third-person racing experience that will leave their palms sweaty. In this high-speed asymmetrical racer, players take control of anti-gravity ships and compete against other players throughout a variety of futuristic locales, each with its own unique layout to master and obstacles to overcome.

Rather than place you directly in the cockpit, Z-Race has you piloting your ship from a third-person perspective using a unique control scheme. One motion controller serves as the ship itself, allowing you to bob and weave around in-game obstacles at incredible speeds. The other controller is used to trigger special abilities, such as speed boost and slow-mo.

At the moment, there is no real-time synchronous multiplayer. Instead, players race asynchronously against one another. A global leaderboard tracks the stats of each racer, allowing you to compare your time with both friends and strangers.

In addition to its refreshing gameplay mechanics, Z-Race sets itself apart from other VR racers with its unique race ship decals. Rather than design their own fake corporations and sponsors, developer XOCUS chose to include various manufacturers, developers, and influencers from within the VR community, including VRScout (Thanks again XOCUS!).

Available now on Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 headsets, the Z-Race demo offers a small taste of the full experience, allowing you to battle it out against other racers on a single track. In honor of the game’s arrival on Quest, XOCUS is currently hosting an in-game tournament featuring a prize pool of $1,000USD.

Happening now through September 24th, the App Lab Cup has Oculus Quest players duking it out for the fastest time. The top 10 players at the end of the tournament will walk away with the following cash prizes:

  • 1st place: $300
  • 2nd place: $200
  • 3rd place: $150
  • 4th-10th place: $50 each

The Z-Race demo is available now on Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 headsets via App Lab and SideQuest. Remember, the tournament ends on September 24th, so get those laps in while you can. At the time of this writing, I’m currently sitting in the top 100. In case you were wondering, yes, that was a direct challenge. Come at me…
