The ‘Aftershocks Update’ introduces new missions, collectibles, and survival tools.
Developer Skydance Interactive today unveiled a new update on its way to The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners that promises “hours of new content”. Set after the events of the main campaign, the ‘Aftershocks Update’ will have you returning to the zombie-infested streets of post-apocalyptic New Orleans as you search for reserve caches hidden behind a variety of new challenges.
You’ll need to move quickly, however, as you won’t be the only one looking for these life-saving packages.
Human enemies from multiple factions will also be on the hunt, forcing you to quite literally fight for your life as you search for the remnants of the fabled Reserve. You can go in quiet with your melee weapon and bow, or make an explosive entrance before running in guns blazing. Sometimes you’ll arrive to find a supply drop has already been looted by Tower or Reclaimed soldiers.
In these cases, you’ll need to follow the clues left behind in order to discover the location of the most valuable items. Find a rare piece of military memorabilia, and you’ve reached the end of your search.
New challenges, such as surprise death squads and hidden booby traps, offer a fresh take on familiar locations throughout the game. This includes the new tripwire bomb, a deadly trap that—when triggered—ignites a nearby propane tank, engulfing you in flames. It’s not all bad though. Skilled players can use this lethal device to their advantage by luring nearby walkers to their explosive doom.
“I like to think of Aftershocks as a small ‘Thank you’ to the players who’ve supported us since the game released and as we’ve grown, ” said Mark Domowicz, Project Director at Skydance Interactive. “These are the bonus missions, end-game content designed to surprise, delight, and challenge even our most diehard fans. And, it’s a small appetizer for bigger things yet to come!”
As previously mentioned, this free update is meant specifically for well-equipped players who’ve already completed the main campaign. As such the enemies you’ll be facing will be more difficult than those you’ve previously come across, so you best come prepared with plenty of ammo and bandages.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is available for $39.99 on Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift (with support for cross-buy), SteamVR and Viveport, and PlayStation VR.
The Aftershocks Update will be available on September 23rd as a free download to all existing owners. You’ll need to have completed the main storyline in order to access the Aftershocks Update.
