Sunset Division’s browser-based immersive painting experience lets you craft beautiful works of art in VR, no additional downloads necessary.
We’ve seen a number of immersive art apps make their way to VR headsets over the past few years. Titles like Kingspray Graffiti VR and SculptVR allow you to try your hand at more unique forms of modern art, while more recent experiences, such as Painting VR on Oculus Quest, offer hyper-realistic simulations of more widely-accepted genres.
Brushwork VR, a free VR painting app available now on Oculus Quest and select PC VR headsets, sets itself apart from the pack by offering headsets owners a surprisingly robust immersive art experience accessible directly through VR browsers.
This means that instead of manually downloading the software like you would a standard game or app, Brushwork VR can be experienced directly from a WebXR-compatible browser, such as the Oculus Browser on Oculus Quest as well as the browsers featured on PC VR headsets like the HTC Vive and HP Reverb G2.
Despite not requiring its own download, Brushwork VR offers a wide range of features that should satisfy even more experienced artists. Using an extensive catalog of VR brushes, you can paint on either a small or large canvas and mix colors using a palette. You can even upload your own custom images to reference while you paint.
While not quite as impressive as some of the aforementioned art apps, Brushwork VR manages to deliver a realistic painting experience that’s as easy to learn as it is to access. Once you’ve finished your masterpiece, you can then share your genre-defying work of art with others using AR technology.
Those interested in trying the app simply need to visit brushworkvr.com on a WebXR-compatible browser, such as the Oculus Browser on Oculus Quest, or Chrome, Edge, or Firefox browsers on the HTC Vive and HP Reverb G2.
