Who needs an expensive gym membership when you have the power of VR?
If you’re anything like me, you’re less than ecstatic at the idea of working out. I mean, you’ll do it, but it’s by no means an enjoyable experience, just a necessary one. It’s for these reasons—among others—that I’ve recently begun incorporating VR into my daily workout regimens. Thankfully, the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 feature no shortage of fitness-focused apps perfect for those in need of additional motivation.
Turn your Oculus Quest 2 headset into the ultimate home gym with the following games and apps.
SUPERNATURAL VR
One of the more obvious choices on the list, Supernatural VR is designed from the ground-up to offer the ultimate full-body cardio experience. For $19.99 a month, users unlock an ever-growing catalog of daily workouts and guided meditative sessions.
Similar to Beat Saber, Supernatural VR has you slashing monochromatic targets to the beat of a motivational soundtrack. Unlike existing VR rhythm games, however, Supernatural offers real-time coaching from various fitness professionals there to keep you motivated as you move.
If you’re looking for an all-in-one Peloton-like solution, Supernatural VR is your best bet. Supernatural VR is available now for free alongide a paid subscription.
FITXR
FitXR combines boxing with dancing to offer a truly unique VR fitness experience packed with an impressive catalog of intense workouts curated by top trainers from around the world. Like Supernatural VR, you’ll be smashing targets while you bust a move to a soundtrack composed of infectious dance music. Adopt a regular workout regimen and you’ll burn serious calories while improving your strength and cardio fitness.
While the app itself costs a one-time fee of $29.99, you can purchase 6 additional add-ons for even more fitness challenges. FitXR is available now for $29.99.
THE CLIMB 2
One of my favorite additions to the list, Crytek’s VR mountain climbing simulator The Climb 2 offers a killer arm workout disguised as a globe-trotting adventure experience. Your triceps and shoulders will be screaming as you scale your way across five incredible locations, each filled with its own exhausting challenges. For an additional challenge, you can engage your abs for a solid upper-body workout that will leave your muscles aching.
Those looking for a workout that doesn’t feel like a workout will definitely want to check this out. The Climb 2 is available now for $29.99.
REAKT PERFORMANCE TRAINER
Not a fitness app per se, REAKT Performance Trainer offers more of a mental workout designed to improve your reaction time, decision making, and hand-eye coordination. The core gameplay revolves around hitting a series of moving targets while simultaneously dodging waves of incoming bombs.
The further your progress the faster the targets move, testing your reflexes as you attempt to keep up with an increasingly-chaotic playing field. The cool part is you can adjust the experience based on your preferred sport, from football and cycling to hiking and martial arts. The app even tracks your performance, offering data on your strengths and weaknesses in real-time.
REAKT Performance Trainer is available now for $19.99.
THRILL OF THE FIGHT
There’s no better way to wrap up your workout than a full-body cardio blast courtesy of Thrill of the Fight. This expertly-crafted VR boxing simulator puts you in the ring with a handful of challenging opponents as you fight your way up the rankings. Just a single match is enough to get your blood pumping in this unforgiving hand-to-hand combat experience. In addition to officiated matchups, you also have access to your own personal gym, complete with a speed bag, heavy bag, and dummy to work on in between bouts.
Whether you’re looking to work your shoulders, delts, core, or quads, Thrill of the Fight has you covered. Sealost Interactive’s VR boxing simulator is available now for $9.99.
