Resolution Games debuted a first look at gameplay from its upcoming tabletop dungeon crawler Demeo, which is coming soon to Quest, PC VR, and non-VR PC with cross-platform play.
With Demeo, Resolution is bringing tabletop RPG gameplay into VR by creating a virtual environment where up to four players can meet and play through a dungeon-crawling tabletop campaign that is stunningly laid out in front of them. It’s like sitting around a table for a traditional game night with friends, except the game in question uses its own virtual, dynamic, and interactive environment that sits on the table in front of you.
It’s hard to accurately describe, so you’re best off just watching the gameplay trailer embedded above to get a good understanding of how it works. There’s some fantastic footage of the virtual game table and the stunning fantasy characters, which you’ll be able to manipulate and interact with.
“Are you sitting around a table playing a board game with friends in your parents’ basement? Yes. Are you a hero exploring levels of a dungeon and facing hordes of monsters and traps with your fellowship of warriors? Also yes,” said Resolution Games CEO Tommy Palm in a prepared statement. “It’s this combined experience that’s so reminiscent of traditional tabletop gaming with friends that makes Demeo such an engaging experience.”
Demeo is set to release on the Oculus Store for both Quest and Rift, as well as Steam for PC VR headsets and traditional PC play. The game is Resolution’s first to support both flatscreen and VR platforms, with cross-platform play allowing for PC players to take part in the action alongside those playing in VR.
