Strap on your combat boots and charge up that BFG 9000. You’re heading to Mars, soldier!
Doom 3 is officially heading to PlayStation VR headsets and it’s going to be over 15 hours of pure hell as you make your way through dark corridors and cramped rooms filled with unholy monstrous creatures.
In a recent blog post, Sony confirmed that Doom 3: VR Edition will also include both of the original expansion packs: Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission.
Everything that you loved about the original Doom 3 has been rebuilt to support Sony’s PSVR technology. Brand new textures, shaders, and sound effects promise a fully immersive experience that will get your heart pumping. You’ll feel a genuine wave of anxiety when your motion detectors ping an enemy in your proximity or when your weapon-mounted flashlight catches a glimpse of something in the darkness.
How do we know this? Well, technically, Doom 3 is already available on the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 thanks to the efforts of prolific VR modder DrBeef. It’s not an official port; those with a copy of the original PC release (sorry BFG edition owners) can sideload a VR-compatible version of the game complete with VR UI touchscreen interaction, fully tracked weapons, and an IK body system among a plethora of other VR specific features.
Last month Sony announced its next generation of VR headsets, promising improved resolution, enhanced tracking, and new VR controllers designed specifically for the more-powerful Playstation 5.
Doom 3: VR Edition will be available for the Playstation 4 and the Playstation 5 on March 29th and will use the PSVR’s Aim controller.
