Serious Labs and Align JV will provide VR training on how to operate mobile elevating work equipment.
For those who may be out of the loop, the UK is currently in the process of developing an eco-friendly high-speed rail line as part of the countries transition to low carbon transportation. The HS2 Rail Line will feature 25 stations across London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Leeds, connecting 30 million people while at the same time generating 500,000 new jobs. When complete, the HS2 will represent the countries largest environmental project to date, offering an alternative form of transportation that emits 17x less carbon than a conventional flight.
“Our ambition at HS2 is to design and build the most sustainable high-speed railway in the world, so that we can play our part in helping the UK to tackle climate change, improve air quality and reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050,” said Mark Thurston, CEO of HS2 Ltd. “But it is just as important for us at HS2 that we protect the natural environment and leave behind richer, more diverse and better-connected landscapes and wildlife habitats. We have some of the UK’s most experienced and leading ecological consultants working with us on what is the biggest environment project in Britain.”
Of course, it goes without saying that this eco-friendly rail line will require a serious amount of construction. To assist workers training for this ambitious undertaking, Serious Labs and Align JV have launched a new VR simulator that provides workers with a safe and secure environment to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to operate mobile elevator work platforms. Once an employee has completed the 30-minute COVID-safe training, the simulator then generates a digital report analyzing their overall performance.
“From initial conversations with the team at Align JV, it was clear they were looking at using innovation and the latest technology to enhance the safety of all aspects of the working environment” said Darren Verschuren, International Account Director at Serious Labs. “Not only is simulator training engaging, cost-effective and safe, it provides trainees with better capabilities, while decreasing the potential for accidents and fatalities — something which is better for everyone.”
“We are excited to be creating a safer jobsite through our partnership with Align JV,” added Jim Colvin, CEO of Serious Labs. “The pandemic has taught people many things, one of which is that you don’t have to go back to the old way of doing things when there are new digital training tools, like simulators, available to provide a more effective and safe pathway to proficiency.”
