Go inside the mysterious tower later this month when “Uprising” arrives on Oculus and SteamVR headsets.
Since its launch on Oculus and SteamVR headsets this past October, Population: One has set the standard for VR battle royale games. Fast-paced gameplay, regular in-game events, and a unique Vertical Combat System combine to offer one of the more addicting PvP multiplayer experiences available on headsets at the moment.
Later this month, developer BigBox Inc. is set to take the vertigo-inducing battle royale to new heights with the launch of Season One, “Uprising.” This 10-week-long season will introduce the Seekers, a new force dedicated to bringing down the Bureau, the megacorp in control of the world of Population: One. While information is sparse at the moment, it sounds as though these Seekers will trigger regular map updates throughout the season as they fight for control. Apparently, players will soon be able to explore the inside of the massive tower located at the center of the map.
In addition to these dynamic map changes, Season One will also introduce a handful of new weaponry, including close-quarters melee weapons like the katana and knife. Players will also have access to a light machine gun perfect for laying down suppressive fire against enemy squads.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Population: One without the cosmetic upgrades. Players can earn and trade Seeker credits to unlock exclusive content. Moving forward, BigBox plans on adding Private Servers to the mix, allowing players to hang out in the pre-game lobby with friends and trigger a match at any time.
“The Season One update builds upon our Vertical Combat System to give players even more ways to play and create social connections, only possible in VR. We can’t wait to share more details soon on what’s coming in Season One,” said Chia Chin Lee, BigBox VR’s CEO and co-founder, in an official release.
“With the launch of Season One later this month, both new and existing players will find themselves challenged in a new way,” added Gabe Brown, BigBox VR’s CTO and co-founder. “We’re incredibly excited to see how players will use the new environment, weapons, and features!”
