Beat Saber, one of the most popular VR games on the market, has sold over four million copies to date.

The news was confirmed today as part of a post on the Oculus Blog detailing developer success on the Quest platform. This means that Beat Saber has doubled its audience in less than a year – we last reported that the game had sold two million copies in mid-March of 2020. At the time the game had sold 10 million paid DLC songs, too. Now it’s up to 40 million following the release of song packs for artists like Linkin Park and BTS.

The post attributes some of this milestone to the recent launch of the Oculus Quest 2, along with the news that over 60 titles have made more than $1 million on the platform. Other specific stats in the post confirm that Onward has made $10 million in revenue on the Quest alone, while Population: One reached the same milestone on the ‘Oculus Store’, likely meaning through both Quest and Rift.

But Beat Saber’s four million sales milestone is the highest we’ve seen for a VR-exclusive title so far. The game has routinely topped the sales charts in Sony’s monthly list of PlayStation Store downloads, for one thing. Last week Skydance Interactive confirmed that The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners has made $29 million in revenue and we also know that Superhot VR passed two million copies sold last year, but haven’t seen an update since. Beat Saber developer Beat Games is itself now owned by Facebook.

The team is still working on adding multiplayer support into the PSVR version after a launch on other platforms in 2020. Plus work is underway on the next installment of the official soundtrack DLC, which will have a metal focus.
