Early supporters receive a custom badge and additional VRC+ time.

SocialVR platform VRChat this week introduced a paid subscription service on SteamVR headsets, offering fans of the immensely popular free-to-play multiplayer experience the chance to unlock additional upgrades while at the same time supporting the hard-working developers.

For $9.99/month ($99.99/year), subscribers unlock a variety of premium features designed to help set them apart from the tens of thousands of users occupying the VRC servers.

Custom User Icons allow you to personalize your VRC nameplate with custom images taken either in-game or in real-life. You can save up to 64 custom icons and swap between them at anytime. Paid subscribers also have access to 100 favorite avatar slots split into four rows, with free users now having access to 25 slots. As if that weren’t enough to help set you apart from the pack, supporters will earn a special Supporter Badge.

Those who sign up now will also receive Early Supporter status, earning them a special “Early Supporter” badge as well as an additional VRC+ time (+1 month for monthly subscribers / +3 months for annual subscribers).

“VRChat Plus is our first step towards our long-term goals for monetization,” states VRChat in the official update. “We want to allow people who create content — be it worlds, avatars, performances, games, hangouts, experiences, whatever — to be able to support themselves. VRChat is a place where creativity is unbounded. If people who like your work want to support you, we want to help them help you. We’re still working on all this, but we’ll keep you in the know as we move forward.”

VRChat+ is available now via SteamVR with support for other VR platforms on the way. For more information visit hello.vrchat.com/vrchatplus.

VRChat is available free-to-play on PC and VR headsets via SteamVR, Oculus Rift/Rift S, and Oculus Quest/Quest 2.
